Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) kicked off its 20th anniversary celebrations with the Ran Reendhoo Run, held today at Central Park in Hulhumalé.
The commemorative run, which drew over 300 participants including a significant turnout of women marks the beginning of a nationwide series of events celebrating two decades since the party’s founding.
Among those in attendance were former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, former Vice President Faisal Naseem, and MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, along with several prominent party figures.
The event opened with a special ceremony paying homage to the party’s role in shaping modern Maldivian politics and its contributions to national development. MDP representatives stated that while the run officially began in Hulhumalé, it will continue across islands throughout Maldives, culminating in a nationwide celebration of the party’s legacy.
Founded in the wake of the 2003 reform movement, MDP was the first political party to be officially registered in the Maldives. Today, the party has over 40,000 members.
