Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecast strong winds and rough seas across the country over the next four days.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in the next 24 hours, with heavy rain likely in parts of the northern Maldives.
“Weather is expected to improve from Thursday,” a Met Office official said.
Winds in the northern and central atolls are expected to range between 13 and 23mph, with gusts reaching up to 45mph. In the south, winds will be slightly calmer, from 8 to 18mph.
Met Office has warned of rough seas in the north and central regions today, while seas in the south will remain moderately rough due to strong winds.
A white alert was issued this morning from 6:15 am to 12:00 pm, over Haa Alifu to Vaavu atoll.
Maldives is currently experiencing the Hulhangu (Southwest) monsoon.
