The Government of Maldives has strongly condemned the actions of Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, for entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and disrespecting one of Islam’s holiest site by praying in the mosque.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tonight, the government described the act as a blatant violation of international law and an affront to the sanctity of Islamic religious sites. The ministry further condemned what it described as a repeated attempt by Israel to alter the historical and religious status of such sites.

The Maldivian government has called on the international community to take urgent and effective measures to pressure Israel to immediately halt all forms of provocation, coercion, and desecration of Islamic holy sites.

Reaffirming its stance, the statement reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering support for the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign state.

According to a recent United Nations report, the humanitarian crisis in Palestine has reached its worst point in over 60 years. The Israeli military offensive in Gaza has continued for 21 months, with over 60,000 people reportedly killed. The number of children and civilians dying from violence and starvation continues to rise daily.
