Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) said today that 1,267 people are currently in the queue for services at its newly opened prescription glasses shop, MCGH Opticals.

MCGH Opticals, which began operations on 26 July, offers prescription eyewear covered under the state-run Aasandha health insurance scheme. In its first week, it has seen high demand, with dozens of patients seeking check-ups daily.

A media official from IGMH told Mihaaru News that around 40 patients undergo vision checks each day, and 1,267 people have already registered to receive prescriptions. So far, 131 pairs of glasses have been issued, with between 20 and 30 prescriptions each day.

While IGMH provides treatment for eye conditions, it has not previously offered vision correction services such as glasses, leaving patients dependent on private providers, who charge higher prices.

The government opened the new eyewear shop to address this gap and offer a more affordable alternative to the private market.

Patients can register for services by calling the shop on 333 5150.
