The Sri Lankan government has announced it will issue one-year medical visa and spouse visas to Maldivians living in Sri Lanka, effective from August 1st.
Previously, Maldivians were only granted medical visas for 3 to 4 months. According to Ambassador Masood Imad, the change came after continued efforts by the Maldivian Embassy in Colombo.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made the announcement during his recent visit to Maldives. The one-year spouse visa applies to Maldivians working or studying in the country who are married to Sri Lankan citizens.
Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu thanked the Sri Lankan government for the decision.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised applicants to ensure all required documents, especially security clearance forms, are correctly submitted. Incomplete or problematic records could lead to visa revocation.
Last month, Sri Lanka also introduced a 90-day on-arrival visa for Maldivians. Additionally, Maldives was officially removed from the list of countries posing a security threat, a list established after the 2019 attacks in Sri Lanka.
