The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has received a complaint outlining flats being given out at random at 75 points and above, rather than the designated 76 points and above as per the list that was created during the previous administration.

The Housing Ministry was the one that issued the complaint to the ACC after the scandal was found out during the flat signing stage. The ministry is requesting the ACC investigates the unlawful allocation of flats.

The ministry said they had realized that 301 people who scored above 76 points did not have their names included in the draw, while 315 people who scored below 75 points were allocated flats.

"The ministry has taken note of the fact that while the ministry and FDC were cross checking the names and information received concerning the individuals who were to sign and receive flats, there were individuals who had gotten more than 76 points in the scheme and that those individuals didn't get the chance to draw their names from the lot on 16th November 2023," as stated by the complaint from the ministry.

According to the Housing Ministry, it is believed that the incident was done to benefit or harm certain people.

The signing of the agreement has been temporarily put on hold for those who have received 75 points. The ministry has stated that the flats will be allocated to those who have received more than the first 76 points as per the guidelines.

A lot of issues had surfaced when the previous administration had released the 4,000-flat list under the Gedhoruveriya Scheme, with lots of people issuing complaints to the ACC. After the ACC had investigated the complaints, there was an error concerning 60 percent of the people who had received flats. After forming a committee to look into these issues, the current administration finally decided to give the flats to the previous administration's list after excluding those deemed ineligible.

The Housing Ministry has sent the names to the FDC, who are conducting signing of the agreements. The ministry said the flats will be ready for occupancy by September.
