Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP Mohamed Ibrahim (North Galolhu) has today proposed that Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan be summoned to parliament for questioning regarding the case of Hawwa Yumn Rasheed.

Yumn was discovered fallen onto the roof of H. Mitaaz with severe injuries on April 18 from what Police have said was a fanlight on the 9th floor stairwell of adjacent H. Fentenoy.

Yumn initially received treatment for her injuries at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, but was later flown to Malaysia for further medical attention.

MP Ibrahim proposed that Minister Ihusan be questioned on whether the Police are investigating individuals named for criminal prosecution in the Presidential Commission’s report, and to provide an update on the status of those investigations. He also intends to ask whether any action has been taken in response to the Commission’s finding of Police negligence in the investigation into Yumn’s fall.

Police stated today that even to date, they have failed to obtain a statement from Yumn. They also confirmed that officers sent to Malaysia to obtain Yumn's statement have now returned, having failed to take the statement.

Police earlier said that two Police Officers had been active in Malaysia from the day Yumn was transferred there for treatment. However, despite multiple attempts, Police could not obtain a statement from Yumn due to failure on her part to cooperate with the Police investigation.

The Presidential Commission was formed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in response to strong criticism and discontent from the public regarding the Police's handling of the case. The Commission's findings concurred that there was negligence on the part of Police in the investigation, but also stated that they are of the opinion that Yumn was not deliberately pushed off from the building.
