STELCO substation cable cut; police launch investigation

Police have launched an investigation after a cable at a STELCO substation near Male' clock tower has been cut.

Police said that some persons had entered the STECLO substation near the Gadi Buru (clock tower) on Fareedhee Magu last night, and cut a cable.

There have been many past instances of cables being stolen from STELCO substations reported to Police.

STELCO has also warned that it is extremely dangerous to enter the substations and handle cables inside.

In one similar incident, a man attempting to steal from a substation in Hulhumale' Phase 2 two years ago was electrocuted to death.
