President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the Israeli government's plan to take control of Gaza. In a post shared on his official X account, President Muizzu expressed his deep concern, stating that the message reflects both his own views and those of the Maldivian people.

This follows today’s decision by the Israeli cabinet to approve Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to annex the Gaza Strip and establish a new government there — excluding the two main Palestinian groups. The Maldivian Government warned that this move violates international humanitarian law and threatens the rights and freedoms of the Palestinian people.

In a statement, the Government of Maldives said that any attempt to seize control of Gaza and dismantle Palestinian governance is a direct attack on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. It added that such actions clearly break international laws and norms.

The President also urged that Israel be held accountable for what he described as 'inhuman acts' committed in the occupied Palestinian territories. This call comes as Israel’s decision unfolds nearly two years into its military offensive in Gaza, amid mounting domestic and international pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urgently reach a deal that would end the starvation of over two million people and secure the release of Israeli hostages.

The Maldives urged the global community to take strong and urgent action to prevent the implementation of Israel's plan and to protect the rights of Palestinians.
