Sheikh Azim Khalid, who has recently gained prominence in Maldives, has formed an Umrah travel group and begun organizing pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia.

Azim, who delivers sermons in Male' and across the islands on behalf of the Islamic Ministry, received government approval in June last year to operate his company, Al-Waadhee Hajj and Umrah.

The group’s first pilgrimage is scheduled for 24 December, coinciding with the school holidays, with travel arranged on an Emirates flight.

Al-Waadhee’s CEO, Abdul Hafiz, said the response from prospective pilgrims had been overwhelming.

“We are very pleased with the positive response received in such a short period of time,” he said, adding that the group was prioritizing arrangements for both Mecca and Medina.

“Hopefully this trip will be a very successful one in every way,” Hafiz said.

The company said the strong interest reflected public trust in its services and pledged to continue offering Umrah packages.

Azim will personally lead the group’s first pilgrimage in December.
