President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last night that next year’s State budget will include a special project to deliver utility services to reclaimed housing land on various islands that remains unused.

The President began his visit to Baa Atoll yesterday, where he gave a speech at Eydhafushi. He stated that the claimed lands were just that, a piece of land, with no development of utilities such as electricity, water, sanitation nor road work. He went on to say that there are other many islands aside from Eydhafushi that are in similar circumstances.

"This special project will be included in next year's budget. A new policy initiative program will be included, which covers establishment of utilities and infrastructural development in the reclaimed lands. Priority will be given to islands where population and development can be balanced, followed by islands with larger populations," said President Muizzu.

As per his statement, one of the top priorities among the islands will be Eydhafushi. He went on to say that he will look into getting work started on Eydhafushi within this year.

"We will ensure this project will be one of our larger ones, with next year's budget including water, electricity, sewerage and road development," said the President.

Practical work on 1,000 housing unit project to begin this year

President Muizzu has given his assurance that he will honor his promises to the residents of Eydhafushi.

He went on to say that an agreement has been signed with a foreign company to build the 1,000 housing units in Eydhafushi, assuring that the practical work will start this year and finish within his term.
