Criminal charges have been pressed against former National Football Team player As'had Ali (Adubarey).
Charges pressed against As'had are of assault, damaging property and of an act that may pose harm to another or intimidation. The hearings for these charges are scheduled for today.
It is not clear what case the charges are related to.
As'had was the bail guarantor when former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed, charged with sexual harassment and rape, was allowed to leave the country. As'had received 15 days in prison for failing to present Ali Waheed for court hearings. At the time, As'had was serving as State Minister for Youth. He completed serving time on March 6, 2022.
As'had was sentenced to 15 days in prison in absentia. He had been in the UK at the time. He was imprisoned upon return to Maldives.
The sentence against As'had at the time stated that there was no proof to indicate his efforts to bring Ali Waheed to court despite being the bail guarantor. It stated that failure to present Ali Waheed in court within 72 hours was tantamount to non-compliance with a court order and contempt of court.
