Agriculture Ministry sends Sh. Atoll more than 1,000 trees

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has sent trees to four islands in Shaviyani Atoll as part of their "Food Security Program" in order to ensure Maldives has more than enough food reserves.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare have sent trees to four islands in Shaviyani Atoll as part of their "Food Security Program" in order to ensure Maldives has more than enough food reserves.

The ministry said that the islands in question are Funadhoo, Narudhoo, Lhaimagu and Bileffahi. 1,159 trees were sent within this month. Trees that were sent include ones that produce common foods such as moringa leaves (muranga), taro (ala), breadfruit (banbukeyo) and water apple (janburol). The trees were sent to various homes and offices of the aforementioned islands. Below are the amount of trees sent to each island.

Sh. Funadhoo

- 65 breadfruit trees

- 116 water apple trees

- 111 moringa leaf trees

- 32 taro trees

Sh. Lhaimagu

- 59 breadfruit trees

- 52 water apple trees

- 51 moringa leaf trees

- 216 taro trees

Sh. Narudhoo

- 60 breadfruit trees

- 71 water apple trees

- 67 moringa leaf trees

- 56 taro trees

Sh. Bileffahi

- 29 breadfruit trees

- 29 water apple trees

- 29 moringa leaf trees

- 116 taro trees

The ministry has also advised councils to follow in their footsteps and send even more trees to various islands.

While the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has been conducting their Food Security Program, they have also gifted 50 breadfruit trees to the HDh. Hanimaadhoo Council in June.
