Nine arrested in drug operations in Nilandhoo

According to police, the first operation followed intelligence reports of drug possession, use, and sale at a residence on the island.

Police have arrested nine individuals in two separate drug operations carried out in Faafu atoll Nilandhoo on Saturday.

According to police, the first operation followed intelligence reports of drug possession, use, and sale at a residence on the island.

An empty film canister containing suspected drugs was recovered under a court order, leading to the arrest of eight people.

The suspects were identified as:

1. Mohamed Visal, 19, Dhoogas, AA. Rasdhoo

2. Mushhaf Mufeed, 22, Hedheykuri, Laamu Gan, Thundi

3. Ibrahim Looth, 20, Finivaage, N. Landhoo

4. Ali Navaaf, 21, Faza, Th. Guraidhoo

5. Ahmed Abaan Ali, 20, Gaafila, S. Hithadhoo

6. Abdulla Laisham, 20, Annaaruge, H.Dh. Nolhivaramfaru

7. Ahmed Usman, 20, Sheen, S. Meedhoo

8. Ibrahim Naffaz, 26, Reg. No. 1438, Male'

One of the suspects was later released, while one was remanded for 15 days and the remaining six for 10 days.

In a separate operation the same day, police arrested Mohamed Maniu, 19, of Shabnamge, Nilandhoo, at the island’s harbour.

Six cellophane bags containing suspected drugs were seized from him during a search. He has been remanded for 10 days.

Nilandhoo Police Station is investigating both cases.
