Criminal Court has fined a man charged with assaulting an MACL employee who was managing the Velana International Airport Taxi Queue, through hitting him across the face.
The incident occurred last year. Three charges were pressed against the assailant: assault, touching a person without consent, and damaging property.
The man pled guilty on all counts.
For touching without consent, he was fined MVR 3,600. The assault charge led to a 4 day prison sentence, along with a MVR 13,600 fine. Since he was previously held in remand, the prison sentence is deemed served.
For property damage, he was sentenced to a 6 day prison term and a fine of MVR 9,600. This prison sentence, too, is void, as his days in remand are taken into account as time served.
The Criminal Court has fined a foreigner as well previously for assaulting an MACL employee.
