Import, sale and use of Cofsy syrup has once again been banned in the Maldives.
The syrup was banned once before, in September last year, after residue was found. Tests by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) revealed no safety concerns at the time, and hence the ban was lifted.
In an announcement, MFDA stated that they are conducting tests to verify that the medication being sold in the Maldives is of good quality. During market surveillance of medication imported into Maldives, quality issues were noted in Cofsy syrup, the authority said.
With this, MFDA has banned the import, sale and use of Cofsy syrup in the Maldives effective today.
MFDA instructed pharmacies to dispose of the medicine under the set policies if it remains in stock.
The authority stated that they have not received any reports of adverse health effects through the use of the medication.
