President kicks off Thoddoo Masters TT Tournament

TT legend and former TT Association President Ahmed Latheef (Seaweed) said during a speech that the TMTTT is the first international veterans category tournament being held in Maldives.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, upon touching down at AA. Thoddoo, has kicked off a veterans table tennis tournament.

TT legend and former TT Association President Ahmed Latheef (Seaweed) said during a speech that the TMTTT is the first international veterans category tournament being held in Maldives.

President Muizzu inaugurated the tournament and partook in the ceremony, with Latheef stating that the President's actions keeps the importance of Maldivian sports at the forefront of his mind.

Latheef also said that he is working towards making the tournament an yearly event.

75 players from 17 countries are participating in this tournament, ranging from 35 to 75 years of age.

As per Latheef, world, regional, continental and national champions of the sport are competing.

He also notes the assistance provided by the Sports Ministry.

Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu spoke at the ceremony, stating that the TMTTT being held at an island is proof that international tournaments can take place at islands in Maldives.

He went on to say that while various tournaments are usually held in the Male' region, having these sorts of tournaments at other atolls is an aim of the government.

The matches are being held at the Thoddoo School hall and will be held from today until this coming Saturday.
