Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has designated two alternative areas for vessels used in the harbour by the closure of the road from Presidential Jetty to the market area for asphalt laying.
In an official announcement, MPL stated that ferry operations previously served from the harbour in front of MMA will continue without interruption from the North Harbor and South West Harbor (TJetty). This temporary arrangement will remain in effect until November 19.
MPL also noted that once the three-month construction project is completed, services at the two harbours will resume under their standard operating rules.
The roadwork, which began today, is a project valued at MVR 144 million.
The government has announced that the road will be expanded to four lanes, with the project expected to be completed in 455 days.
