Adhaalath Party is a remarkable intellectual institution with a firm and unwavering ideology, said the party’s President, Sheikh Imran Abdullah, during a special ceremony held yesterday to mark the party’s 20th anniversary.

The event, held at Galolhu Madrasa, celebrated Adhaalath Party’s legacy as the third political party to be officially registered in the Maldives.

Imran emphasized that the party’s core ideology and guiding principle is justice.

"There will be no peace, security, satisfaction, or happiness in a society where justice is lost,”

Drawing on examples from Islamic history, Imran reflected on the current state of the Islamic Ummah, attributing many of its challenges to the erosion of justice and the spread of corruption and injustice.

“As long as we uphold justice and do not allow injustice and corruption, Insha Allah, Adhaalath Party will always shine in the Maldives,” he said.

Reflecting on the party’s early years, Imran noted that Adhaalath was founded in very different circumstances compared to its contemporaries. Unlike the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Adhaalath began without experienced political figures.

“An ordinary Adhaalath member working in Bandos brought a computer, printer, and CD writer to prepare the party’s documents. That is how Adhaalath began,” Imran recalled.

Despite the lack of political experience, Imran said the party’s true strength was its clear ideology, strong convictions, and unshakable determination.

He highlighted the unique nature of the party's leadership, which was comprised primarily of religious scholars, bringing both opportunities and significant challenges.

Still, Imran noted, Adhaalath has kept pace with other major political parties over the years.

“At that time, many MDP members would attend Adhaalath meetings, and Adhaalath members would attend MDP meetings. It was because they shared similar rules and principles,” he said.

Adhaalath Party was officially formed on August 18, 2005. With 20 years of continuous existence, it now holds the distinction of being the second-longest continuously operating political party in the Maldives, after the MDP.
