Two men have been convicted for their involvement in the February 8, 2021, murder of 17-year-old Ahmed Udhayyu in GA. Mamendhoo.

The Criminal Court found Ahmed Shameem of Rihifarudhaage, GA. Maamendhoo and Mohamed Mazin of Gulfaamuge, GA. Maamendhoo, guilty of participating in the fatal attack. Both were charged with taking part in the murder.

Meanwhile, a third man charged in connection with the case, Sharaf Rasheed of Bilehmaage, GA. Maamendhoo was acquitted.

In delivering the ruling, the judge stated that although the fatal blow was inflicted by a man identified as Ahmed Maish Zaki, both Mazin and Shameem acted alongside him.

"The three individuals were seen fighting together—armed with knives or sharp objects—and approaching from all directions. All three were clearly engaged in the attack on Udhayyu," the judgment read.

The court concluded that Mazin and Shameem were active participants in the murder, working together with Maish Zaki.

With the verdict reached, the court will next hear testimony from Udhayyu’s heirs before sentencing. The judge announced that the sentencing hearing will be scheduled for September.

As for Sharaf Rasheed, who had faced charges of complicity in the killing, the court found insufficient evidence to convict him. He testified that his presence at the scene was due to another incident, claiming Udhayyu's brother had kicked and knocked Sharaf off his motorcycle.

Evidence presented showed that Sharaf entered a nearby house during the incident and did not participate in any violence against Udhayyu. The court concluded that his presence at the scene was incidental and not connected to the attack.

Separately, a 17-year-old boy was tried in Juvenile Court in connection with the same case. He was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
