Renowned Maldivian businessman and a shareholder of Tree Top Hospital, 'Kerafa' Abdul Ghani has passed away today.
Ghani died in Bangkok, Thailand, where he had been undergoing medical treatment following a prolonged illness.
Ghani, the uncle of former President Mohamed Nasheed, was also amongst the founders of one of the most successful tourism enterprises in the country, Crown Company Maldives.
Ghani was brother to Nasheed's father and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's mother in law.
In a post on X, Nasheed expressed condolences on Ghani's passing, remembering him for his exceptional service to the Maldives in the fields of electrification, tourism and vocational teaching.
Ghani is also credited with establishing the first powerhouse in the country. He also led efforts to set up the vocational training centre.
