Police have said that investigations so far indicate that the deceased man found in Hulhumale' Water Park yesterday could be an expatriate reported missing on August 21.

However, Police said that the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed as of yet.

Police said that the body had been severely decomposed when it was discovered yesterday, making identity difficult. However, they are now undertaking efforts to confirm identity.

Although Police have said that it is likely to be the missing expatriate, they did not disclose any further details regarding this. Neither the nationality nor the place of work of the man has been revealed yet.

The Hulhumale' Water Theme Park was contracted to Waterfront and Leisure company in 2017. However, no work has been conducted on the site besides constructing a high rise building. The place has been left abandoned since then, with it falling to ruin.

Walls of the building are filled with graffiti and there has been public complaints that the area is being frequented by gangs.

HDC cancelled the agreement in 2022 and decided to take back the land, but Waterfront and Leisure Company took the matter to court. In September 2022, High Court issued a halt order against HDC.
