As two housing schemes from the previous government, namely Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya, are at a standstill, Fahi Union and Uthuru Thila Falhu Union have brought it to the attention of the current government.
During yesterday's press conference held by both unions, lawyer Ali Hussain stated that then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had announced a second phase to both the housing schemes.
Ali pointed out that the 9,000 people that applied for the Binveriya scheme are to receive plots of land. He went on to say that over 40,500 people applied for both schemes, schemes which were made to help individuals who have been living in Male' all their lives to get plots and flats which is generally known to be quite a difficult endeavor.
Ali went on to say that there were 21,247 applicants for flats and 19,347 applicants for plots.

"In truth, there are a lot of people among us who have forgotten about the schemes. When we spoke to people from our islands, they have said that they did apply but are unclear as to which scheme they applied to and whether their names are even there or not," said Ali.
Details about the plots and flats were shared.
- Uthuru Thila Falhu: 9,000 plots and 3,000 flats
- Gulhi Falhu: 3,800 plots and 4,000 flats
- Male': 1,800 flats
- Villimale': 300 flats
- Hulhumale': 1,500 plots and 8,000 flats
"Upon evaluation, it is unclear as to whether the information in the forms are valid, with the work of checking as to who get the flat or plot and who is eligible or not being unfinished by the current government," stated Ali.

As the flats and plots have been seemingly forgotten by the current government, both unions have presented the gazetted announcement to them and reminded them of it.
As per Ali, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has repeatedly reassured the public that the plots and flats, with their predetermined areas, that were decided to be given by the previous government will be given out.
Ali has criticized the government's decision to dredge Fushidhiggaru Falhu and develop Rasmale' without dredging Uthuru Thila Falhu.
He went on to say that if the government had concentrated their efforts to dredge Hulhumale' and Uthuru Thila Falhu rather than Rasmale', both the aforementioned dredging projects would have already been completed.
"We know that the government has the ability to dredge up land. The issue lies in the order of completion," said Ali.
He called for the government to cease the dredging of Rasmale' for the time being and dredge the detailed areas in the Binveriya/Gedhoruveriya schemes so that their rightful owners may receive their promised flats and plots.
