Thinadhoo City Council has announced plans to take legal action to recover MVR 29 million in unpaid rent from land leased in the island.
In a statement issued yesterday, the council said it was owed MVR 29.8 million as of 15 August. A list of defaulters was also published, showing 42 leased plots with outstanding rent and penalty fees.
Cases have already been filed in court over six of the plots, the council said.
It urged tenants to pay land rent monthly and warned that further cases would be sent to court to recover arrears.
