STO has dropped charges against former Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, with the charges being the rent non-payment of the STO food court.

Shamaan, who was removed from his position in March and jailed until the end of the trial, was charged by STO in order to obtain the rental and maintenance fees of the leased STO food court.

STO had requested for a payment of MVR 97,399.

Yesterday however, the Civil Court called to withdraw the claim and have since invalidated it.

STO have stated that the claim was withdrawn as discussions were held regarding the manner of payment retrieval, with an agreement being reached.

While Shamaan was behind bars at Maafushi Jail for the duration of the trial, he had been charged with participation in robbery, abuse of official status and money laundering.
