President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
The President's Office said that President Muizzu was welcomed in Beijing by China's Minister of Emergency Management Wang Xiangxi, Ambassador of China to Maldives Kong Xianhua and Ambassador of Maldives to China Dr Fazeel Najeeb.
The President was accorded an Honour Guard, followed by a cultural performance at the Beijing Capital International Airport.
During the visit, the President will be holding bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and other foreign leaders, as well as participating in high level engagements, the President's Office said.
Media reports in China state that leaders from 26 nations will be participating in the SCO Summit, scheduled to be held on Sunday and Monday this week. This includes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Maldives is a dialogue partner of SCO.
President Muizzu's last trip to China was in January last year, his first visit to the country after assuming office. During that visit, Maldives and China signed 20 MOUs.
