Expats arrested for possession and sale of alcohol

Four expatriates have been arrested for possession, use and sale of alcohol.

Four expatriates have been arrested for possession, use and sale of alcohol. 

Police arrested three Sri Lankans and a Bangladeshi in relation to this case.

The three Sri Lankans are Senith Heshan Vikramasinghe, 29, Dulith Madusaka, 39, and Jinith Maduranga Senavirathin, 24. 

The Bangladeshi is Jahangir Hosein, 35. 

Police said that the Sri Lankans were arrested in an operation carried out in Male' last Wednesday by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department based on intel received.

As part of the operation, a residence in Henveiru ward of Male' and a motorcycle were searched. During the search, Police discovered 19 bottles and 12 cans of alcohol, Police said. 

Police said that all three have been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation. 

The Bangladeshi man was arrested during police patrols in Hulhumale' Phase 1 on Friday. 

Police stopped him due to suspicious activity while he was driving down Reethigas Magu on a motorcycle. A search of the motorcycle revealed 9 500ml bottles of suspected liquor. 

The court has placed him in remand in custody for ten days. 

Last Thursday, a Maldivian was also arrested for possession of alcohol. On August 25, Police stopped a pick up from which 144 cans of alcohol were found.
