Maldives Meteorological Service (Met) has forecast heavy rain and rough seas in different parts of the country until Thursday.
A Met media official told Mihaaru News that conditions linked to the southwest monsoon (Hulhangu) would ease at different times across the regions.
Bad weather is expected to continue in the north and central atolls until Tuesday, while southern atolls are likely to be affected from Tuesday through Thursday. Islands in the north and central Maldives will see rainfall until Wednesday, with seas expected to calm from September 2.
The 24-hour forecast predicts heavy rain and thunderstorms in northern atolls, with showers and thunderstorms in parts of the south.
Winds are expected from the west and northwest at 13–23mph in the north and central atolls, and from the southwest and west at 5–15mph in the south, with gusts reaching up to 40mph.
The seas will remain rough in central and northern regions but moderately calm in the south, according to Met.
