Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has begun purchasing fish from Fuvahmulah City harbour, weighing six tonnes on the first day.
The catch was weighed by the 30-tonne vessel Randhi 19 yesterday, MIFCO said.
Once the vessel reaches full capacity, the fish will be transported to cold storage in Addu City before it returns to Fuvahmulah to continue purchases.
MIFCO also announced plans to operationalize a fish processing centre in Fuvahmulah later this year, with processed fish to be made available for sale.
