Maldives Thirdway Democrats (MTD), a political party founded in 2018 by former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb, has been officially dissolved by the Election Commission today.
According to the Commission, the party failed to maintain the minimum membership required under the Political Parties Act, which mandates that each registered party must have at least 3,000 members.
Although the MTD had previously met the required threshold, its membership numbers had since fallen below the legal minimum, prompting the Commission to remove it from the official registry of political parties.
The MTD, led by Adheeb, who has been implicated in the high-profile MMPRC corruption scandal, has remained active in the political scene in recent years.
Following the commutation of his prison sentence by the previous administration, Adheeb has since relocated abroad.
