Preparations are in to expand the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service to five more atolls.
According to the Ministry of Transport, RTL services will soon be launched in Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, and Laamu atolls as part of the ongoing nationwide expansion.
The Ministry also confirmed that baseline surveys will be carried out this month and next, with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to facilitate the groundwork.
Currently, RTL ferry services are operational in 10 atolls across the country, helping to improve connectivity and ease of travel for thousands.
The government has entrusted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) with implementing the RTL project. Divided into three phases across six zones, the initiative is being rolled out with a total investment of MVR 800 million.
Launched in 2022, the RTL ferry network is a key part of the government’s efforts to transform public transport and improve accessibility across the Maldives.
