In a tribute to Ihavandhoo’s deep-rooted fishing culture, the island council has unveiled a 3D concept design for a new jetty and monument, symbolizing the island’s identity and legacy. The project, a key promise of the current council, has now entered the public commenting phase.

The animation, created by 3D designer Mohamed Yameen, features a symbolic transformation: a traditional fishing boat sailing into the island’s bay is gradually replaced by a modern fishing vessel, the kind now commonly built in Ihavandhoo. This visual metaphor highlights the island’s evolution from its seafaring past to its modern fishing industry.

The bridge itself is shaped like a boat, anchoring the design in local tradition. Below the structure, there will be a passenger waiting area, while a staircase will lead visitors to an open-air coffee shop, offering a scenic spot for locals and travelers alike.

According to Council President Ahmed Sobah, the project is being funded with MVR 2 million from the council's budget. Construction is expected to begin soon, with a targeted completion date of May next year.

The concept drawing of the bridge and monument was officially opened for public comment yesterday. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to share their feedback via a Google Form before 2:00 PM next Tuesday.
