Parley Maldives Director Shaahina wins Asian "Nobel Prize"

Parley Maldives' Director Shaahina Ali has won the Ramon Magsaysay Award, popularized as the Asian "Nobel Prize".

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation website states that Shaahina has been working in the environment industry for a long time with passion. She is known particularly for her efforts in reducing the environmental damage caused by plastic waste.

The Foundation has also recognized the work done by Parley Maldives under Shaahina's leadership that has been done in connection with island residents, schools and businesses. More than 700 beach cleanup programs have been conducted. Plastic reduction programs have been organized. The agency has connected with more than 70 schools to increase environmental awareness as well.

She has voiced the importance of implementing government policies that do not bring harm to the environment, along with issues pertaining to the environment, climate change and many others. She has also conducted many a work in raising environmental awareness.

The Foundation has stated that the judges in charge of choosing the award recipient have confirmed that Shaahina's work will benefit future generations to come, such as the importance she places on her efforts to protect marine wildlife, environmental foresight. The judges marked their appreciation for all her efforts to the industry.

This prestigious award was created in memory of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay in 1958 and has been awarded in recognizing individuals and organizations who have made valuable contributions in various fields across Asian countries.

A press conference was also held by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation in honor of Shaahina winning the award.

Along with Shaahina, Philippine resident Flaviano Antonio el Vilanuevo (an individual in public service) and private Indian company Educate Girls (brings education opportunities to female students) has also won the award.

The award ceremony will be held on 7th November at Manila, Philippines. This marks the 67th year of the awards.
