The island of Minimasgali, which was given to Dhaa Atoll Council, has been leased out.

As per a council announcement, the island was given to them by the government for financial strengthening, with Yash Exotic Island Pvt Ltd (YEI) conducting a tourism business on the island since January.

The council announcement also stated that as the island has been handed over to YEI, it is prohibited to go back and forth from the island without their permission.

Dhaa Atoll President Ahmed Shafeeu told Mihaaru News that YEI was the only company that expressed interest in the island when they had issued the announcement pertaining to the island three times.

He also stated that the island was loaned out for farming purposes with an acquisition fee of MVR 3.9 million having been sent to the council.

The council has decided to use these funds for the needs of all island councils in the atoll and various institutions as well, said Shafeeu.

"We have decided to use the money for the needs of island residents. Every school will get a buggy. Every council will also get a buggy for employee transport. Development of government buildings will also be done," said Shafeeu.

Along with Minimasgali, the council was handed Fenfushi in January as well. Shafeeu has stated that they have not decided how to utilize Fenfushi.
