Statistics show that former 173 Parliament members have spent a total of MVR 18.9 million on health insurance in 10 years.
A citizen invoked the Right to Information Act to obtain these statistics, which further shows that from 2014 to 2025, 173 former members, of which some have passed, have a health insurance expenditure of MVR 18.9 million due to the state paying two rates for the insurance. MVR 12,500 was spent yearly up until 2017, with the health insurance rate going up to MVR 24,000 then on.
However, the statistics do not show the health insurance numbers of currently seated members.
Even though the state provides health insurance to former members, individuals in other state positions can only have access to the health insurance system that their organization allows.
Members who have served the Parliament for one term, who have reached 55 years of age will receive financial incentives. The incentives increase the more years they serve.
