President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé following an official visit to China, which began last Sunday. During the trip, the President participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and held a series of high-level meetings with heads of state and senior government officials.

According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the enduring relationship between the Maldives and China. Discussions also focused on enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Muizzu met with leaders from various countries to explore opportunities for expanding diplomatic and economic relations.

The President also took part in a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in World War II.

As part of the visit, the Maldives and China signed 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), covering areas such as capacity building, economic development, infrastructure, and renewable energy.

Notably, the agreements include plans to establish a fisheries and maritime logistics hub in Addu, and a partnership with China's National Skill Development Authority to support human capital development.
