Addu Equatorial Hospital has stated that the individual who was electrocuted when attempting to cut a power cable has now stabilised.

Addu islands lost electricity on Friday night due to the central power house being downed when an individual attempted to damage a cable at Substation No. 41, leading to a short circuit.

The individual suffered extensive burn injuries along with a head injury.

The individual was first brought to the health center but was later taken to Addu Equatorial Hospital due to power outage in the center.

A hospital official told Mihaaru News that the individual's condition has stabilized and that he does not require being moved to Male' for further treatment. No other information was given regarding the individual's injuries.

Electricity was restored after around four hours.

In a statement released by Fenaka regarding the incident, they have said that actions such as these not only harm the company but also bring unneeded suffering to the public. The corporation urges against such actions as it is both a danger to those who commit them and to those who are not involved.

There have been reports in the past of robbers cutting and stealing electricity cables in Male'. In recent history, an individual who attempted to rob a transformer has gotten electrocuted and passed away as a result.
