Today, the Viluntheri Raajje (Resilient Maldives) team stated that the 20-year National Development Masterplan is set to launch in January 2026 and that a team of international experts will arrive very soon to Maldives.
One of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's presidential pledges, the process of drafting the Masterplan was decided by the cabinet last year which subsequently began.
Nexia Maldives, a consultancy firm, has begun the process of gathering public opinion regarding the development project and has started travelling to various islands. 10 teams will gather opinions from 186 islands, particularly from residents, relevant authorities and businessmen.
Individuals can put forth their own ideas regarding development projects through online platforms and meetings.
Project lead Mohamed Nafeez gave information regarding the project during a public relations meeting, where he said that public consultation regarding the infrastructural and social development of the nation will come to an end within this year.
He also stated that the Masterplan will launch by the end of January 2026.
He went on to say that along with gathering public opinion, an international team of five experts who will be in charge of creating the financial plan for the project will also arrive very soon. These include an economic, financial and geo consultant.
Nafeez also said that their expenses will be covered from outside sources.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced in the past that legal changes will be brought to empower the national development plan. A monitoring framework, financial plan and implementation framework will also be included.
Nafeez said that all planning stages will be completed around June 2026. Before that, public consent will be ensured, he stated.
