Police conduct operation at Himmafushi Drug Rehabilitation Centre

Police's Drug Enforcement Department has commenced an operation at the Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Himmafushi. 

Mihaaru News reports that authorities are conducting a raid at the centre after receiving intelligence indicating the presence of contraband held by some occupants.

Police are yet to officially comment on the operation. 

National Drug Agency (NDA) Chairman and State Minister at Homeland Security and Technology Lubna Zahir Hussain said that even in the instance that there are no such suspicions, operations are carried out habitually at rehabilitation centres under the NDA and other institutions. 

However, today's operation is being conducted based on intelligence that phones have been smuggled in and are being used in the centre, she said. Lubna stated that the entire centre will be searched during the operation.
