The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory urging Maldivian nationals to avoid travelling to Nepal due to the ongoing unrest in the country.

In an official statement, the Ministry advised citizens to strictly follow instructions issued by Nepalese authorities, the High Commission in India, and the Ministry itself. Citizens currently in Nepal are urged to stay away from conflict zones and prioritize their safety at all times.

Meanwhile, a curfew has been imposed in several areas of the capital, Kathmandu. Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and refrain from going out except for essential needs. Citizens are also asked to be vigilant and give priority to public safety and security.

The unrest erupted following a Supreme Court ruling that shut down social media platforms, sparking widespread protests that began as anti-corruption demonstrations but have since escalated. At least 19 people have been killed and dozens more injured in clashes since yesterday. The deteriorating situation prompted Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign earlier today.

The Foreign Ministry also acknowledged that a significant number of Maldivian doctors are currently pursuing specialized studies in Nepal. The safety and well-being of these students are being closely monitored.
