MTCC has announced that laying tar on the first section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu which is being repaired will be completed today, adding that the remaining work will also be completed in a week.
This first section spans from the Fish Market to Republic Square.
The road renovation project on this section commenced in August, with the area having remained closed to the public for the duration.
An official from the project's contractor, MTCC, said that 97 percent of this section, 'Segment 1', has now been completed. Currently, tar is being laid, which will see completion by the end of the day, he said.
Road signs and boards will also be fixed by the end of the week.
"This revolutionary project will make the roads very convenient for pedestrians. With the wider roads a solution will be brought to the issue to traffic congestion, and there won't be flooding even in heavy rain. It will be a safe environment for all."
The next segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu that will see renovation will span from the Fish Market to the North Harbour.
