Police have stated that they have towed 787 vehicles in Hulhumale' under their program to remove illegally parked vehicles and vehicles parked on the streets for long durations.
Most of the towed vehicles were registered to other zones, according to Police.
Police started this operation on December 6. Before they began towing such vehicles, Police urged owners to remove such vehicles on the streets of Hulhumale' Phase 1 and 2.
After completing the operation, Police revealed today that a total of 787 vehicles were towed, most of which were registered to zones other than the Male' area.
Details of the towed vehicles
- Vehicles bearing license plates unrelated to the registered zones - 252
- Unregistered vehicles and vehicles without license plates - 186
- Vehicles abandoned on the streets for extended periods - 349
All the towed vehicles have been taken to Thilafushi, Police said.
The vehicles will be released to their owners after all pending traffic fines are paid. To retrieve the vehicles, owners can approach Hulhumale' Phase 1 Police Station, they said. Once the fines are paid, the Police Station will issue a release slip, which the owner must take when going to Thilafushi to recover the vehicles.
Police further said that under the set policies, if a vehicle is not reclaimed within 60 days of its details being publicized, they will be destroyed.
