The Criminal Court today opened proceedings in the AbduRahman murder case.
AbduRahman was discovered violently attacked by a group of assailants and fatally injured in his bedroom in AA. Maalhos in July. He succumbed to his injuries just hours after being rushed to the island's Health Centre.
The State has charged three individuals from AA. Maalhos in the case: Ahmed Aashid, Fiya; Mohamed Visam, Lilyfehi; and Ahmed Faris, Finivaage.
Aashid is charged with intentional homicide, and Visam and Faris are charged with being accessories to murder.
In today's hearing at the Criminal Court, the rights of the defendants were read out and Judge Ismail Shafeeu asked if relevant documentation has been received.
The defence lawyer for all three responded that some documents are missing.
The prosecution also stated that the DNA report and video analysis report have not been received yet as Police are still working on compiling these.
The Judge instructed the defence to apply to the Prosecutor General's Office within five days to obtain the missing documents. In the instance that any documents cannot be provided, the State must inform the court, along with justification.
Judge Shafeeu noted that even in major cases, there has been instances where the reports are not received even as the trial concludes in court. He stated that he has raised this concern during numerous previous trials as well.
The defence noted that the three accused still remain in police custody, and requested that they be transferred to a remand prison in accordance with the law. The Judge stated that this will be granted by court.
The Judge announced that a further hearing will be held in late December.
