Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced vacancies for two judges at the High Court.
The positions became vacant following the retirement of the court’s longest serving judge, Mohamed Niyaz, and the resignation of judge Mohamed Faisal.
According to the JSC, applicants must hold a first degree in Islamic Sharia, law, or law and Islamic Sharia, and have at least five years of relevant experience.
The remuneration package for the post includes a basic salary of MVR 45,700, a living allowance of MVR 18,000, and a risk allowance of MVR 3,300.
JSC said the deadline for applications is 21 December.
The announcement also sets out eligibility criteria for candidates. Applicants must:
- Be a Sunni Muslim
- Be of sound mind
- Not hold, or have held, an elected or appointed political office under the Constitution or any law
- Not be a member of a political party or be actively involved in politics
- Not have been convicted of offences prescribed in Islam, or of fraud or bribery
- Not have been convicted of offences under the Penal Code, including immoral acts or terrorism related offences, within the past seven years
- Be compliant with any court ordered debt repayments, where applicable
- Not be serving a sentence for a criminal offence
