WAMCO employee still on ventilator after inhaling diesel

The WAMCO employee who was hospitalized after inhaling diesel during a refueling incident remains on ventilator support, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has confirmed.

The incident occurred in Gaafu Alifu Dhiyadhoo while the employee was attempting to transfer diesel into a generator. During the process, diesel entered his lungs, causing severe breathing difficulties.

The injured employee has been identified as 37 year old Ibrahim Shah, a resident of Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

He was initially taken to Gemanafushi Health Centre for emergency treatment before being transferred to Villingili Hospital. However, to provide further care, he was later transferred to IGMH in Male'.

An IGMH media official told Mihaaru News that Ibrahim Shah is currently being treated in ICU and remains on a ventilator.

The family is reportedly making arrangements to take him abroad for further medical treatment.

Earlier, WAMCO Managing Director Mujuthaba Jaleel said that proper refueling ramps and safety arrangements were in place at the power plant where the incident occurred. He said the employee was attempting to speed up the work at the time of the accident.
