Yesterday's walk-in interviews in trying to find drivers for the government's taxi line service received a high number of applicants.
As per what MTCC said to state media Public Service Media (PSM), more than 250 people went for the interview held at the Maafannu Bus Terminal from 10:00am to 6:00pm yesterday. MTCC has not confirmed how many people they will hire as of yet.

The government has decided to start the taxi line service via MTCC in order to solve the difficulties surrounding public transport.
When MTCC announced that they were looking for 407 drivers for taxi services last November, 366 had applied.
While they had searched for part-time and full-time drivers, MTCC has not revealed how many people had gotten the job as of yet.
The government decided to begin a taxi business so that the difficulties faced by the public can be solved. The public faces challenges in getting taxis even with around 1,500 cars being currently registered for taxi services.
As per what Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has said in the past, 100 cars will be cleared for service in the beginning. The minister said that this would bring about a positive change and that there will be taxis small enough to enter the narrow roads of Male'.

MTCC will provide the taxi service via electric vehicle (EV) cars. Charging stations for said cars are currently being built in Hulhumale'.
The government's taxi line service will operate within a specific application, much like Uber and Grab in other countries. The application will allow 24-hour taxi bookings.
