Many islands that have ambulances in disrepair have been given brand new ones.

In the ceremony held at the Health Ministry, Minister Abdulla Nazim handed the ambulances to 56 islands in need. Senior officials of health centers and hospitals in the islands received said ambulances.

Last year, MPL was awarded the project of identifying islands with ambulance services that have been halted and taking ambulances to said islands via contractor financing. The project was worth MVR 65.3 million.

The ministry stated that the ambulances were sent to the islands on three separate occasions this month.

"These are brand new ambulances for hospitals and health centers in atolls that have had ambulances in disrepair and disuse," as per the ministry's statement.

The ministry stated that 31 islands in need of ambulances and 10 paramedic ambulances within the Male' region will see service begin within this year.
