Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), the Member of Parliament for the North Galolhu constituency, submitted a question today seeking clarification on why modern solutions have not been implemented to address the difficulties faced in sourcing blood.

In his notice for a written response from Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, Ibrahim questioned why there has been a long delay in establishing a national system for blood treatments provided by healthcare centers and a comprehensive registry, including the details of blood donors and those introduced to the center as donors for thalassemia children, as mandated by the Health Services Act and the Thalassemia Control Act.

Additionally, the question asked why a modern solution to the current challenges in obtaining and providing blood has not yet been achieved.

This inquiry to the Health Minister comes at a time when the Maldives Blood Service (MBS) has appealed for public assistance due to blood shortages.

In a social media post last Thursday, the institution stated that blood is needed from all groups. Blood donations are being accepted on official working days from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
