The Sh. Feydhoo Council has begun compiling a registry of Feydhoo residents living on other islands.
This announcement comes after the Housing Ministry had stated they would only acknowledge documents from a council that maintains records even if councils submit documents to prove the 15-year residency in Male' in order to meet the requirements when applying for the housing project announced by the government.
An announcement from the Feydhoo Council read that the determination of an individual living at another island and the duration will be determined after the documents submitted to the council are looked over.
The announcement also states that documents that inform the council an individual is living on the island should also be submitted.
This includes the pension scheme document from an employer. The document should state their starting date, the name of the party that gave the document, signature and seal.
As per the announcement, if an individual was employed before the ratification of the Maldives Pension Act, an official document from the private company or government company they were employed at should clarify their employment also be submitted.
Additional documents to be submitted include a document that verifies an individual has attended an educational center from their island of residence and a document which proves their period of residence at the island from information via documents that are officially recorded from a state agency.
The Feydhoo Council stated that in order to prove their residence at an island, the individual is to take an oath under the supervision of a public notary and to submit an affidavit from the owner of the house they are living in which has been notarized.
The announcement also includes an example of the said document.
Feydhoo Council President Ahmed Raisam has told Mihaaru News that this work is a part of their efforts in compiling a registry that includes Feydhoo residents who are living on other islands and residents of other islands who are living in Feydhoo.
Raisam has also said that yesterday, the council has determined a regulation that specifies Feydhoo residents who are living on other islands.
As per Raisam, many people have been requesting documents from the council to apply for the recent flat announcement. However, as the information has not been officially recorded, the compilation of the registry will ease the difficulties faced in regards to acquiring documents for the flats.
The council has said that around 300 people from Feydhoo are residing on other islands for various purposes from their population exceeding 1,370.
Some people are currently requesting island councils for documents in order to prove their residence at Male' has reached 15 years so they can apply for the housing project in the Male' region. However, if a council administration has not been officially keeping records, the Local Government Authority (LGA) has told councils to not release documents stating an individual has been residing in Male' for 15 years continuously.
