Land reclamation has recommenced at Giraavaru Falhu, where land plots are to be allocated to Male' residents to address the housing issues in the capital.
Reclamation efforts started this morning, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced in a post on X.
Reclamation at Giraavaru Falhu has commenced following the completion of Hulhumale' Phase 3.
The work is being undertaken by MACL, with the use of two dredgers to expedite efforts.
The project was initially contracted to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC), but the agreement was later voided as it required land to be granted to the company in return.
At present, about 90 hectares have been reclaimed at Giraavaru Falhu. This administration changed the Land Use Plan, and decided to reclaim an additional 50 hectares. With this, a total of 219 hectares will be reclaimed.
President Muizzu has previously said that Giraavaru Falhu reclamation will be completed within the next three months.
2,605 plots of 1,250sqt, 1,213 plots of 1,650sqft, 253 plots of 2,050sqft and 1 plot of 2,450sqft will be issued from Giraavaru Falhu.
The Housing Ministry has announced that with changes to the Land Use Plan, locations of land plots issued under the Binveriya housing scheme has also changed. With this, drawing lots to determine plots will be held on January 31, Saturday.
